Get the Facts About Radon Gas in Colorado

What is Radon?

In Colorado, radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer. In fact, the Surgeon General of the United States has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US today.

The gas is inert, colorless, odorless, and tasteless, so there is no way for you to know if you have dangerous levels of radon in your home or business.

It is formed by the natural decay of radioactive uranium in the ground. Radon is also naturally in the atmosphere in trace amounts. Outdoors, radon disperses rapidly and in general, is not a health issue.

Where is Radon?

Most radon exposure in Colorado occurs inside homes, schools, and workplaces. Radon gas becomes trapped indoors after it enters buildings through cracks and other holes in the foundation. Radon can also enter your home through well water.  Radon testing in Woodland Park, Co and if necessary radon mitigation in Colorado Springs or wherever you live in El Paso, Pueblo, or Teller County will keep your family safe.

Any home can have a radon problem, including new and old homes, well-sealed and drafty homes, and homes with or without basements. Nearly one out of every 15 homes in the US is estimated to have an elevated radon level (4 pCI/L or more).

Indoor radon can be controlled and managed with proven, cost-effective techniques (EPA.gov).

Why be Concerned?

The symptoms of radon exposure are the same as lung cancer. There are no routine medical tests that can determine if you’ve been exposed to radiation. There is also no way to remove it from your body once you’ve been exposed.
